In Washington, we have many parks and forests filled with different types of trees. The type of tree that represents my state is Evergreen, which you see in many of the pictures above. Our bird is the Yellow Goldfinch. There is a lot of farming in my state. Some of the major crops from around my town are apples, cherries, hops, and grapes, for winemaking. There are also farms with wheat, corn, and other fruits and vegetables. In the Eastern part of the state, where I live, we get all four seasons. Summer is hot and dry. Spring can be cold, warm, rainy, or sunny. Fall starts of warm and quickly turns cold as all the trees change their colors and loose leaves. Sometimes it snows in the fall. In the winter there is rain and usually a lot of snow. There are two big state universities in Washington. Washington State University and University of Washington. Football is very popular at those universities. I got my teaching degree from UW. Gonzaga University, where I did my undergraduate studies is small, but has a nationally ranked basketball team. Gonzaga does not have football, so basketball is the major sport to cheer on. In Washington, we have a volcano, Mt. St. Helens. The last time it erupted was in the 1980´s. Skiining, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and mountain climbing are popular activities in the winter on the many snow covered mountains the state has. During other seasons, river rafting, hiking, rock climbing, and biking are popular activites.
