Thanksgiving project (1st to 6th grade).

Thanksgiving November'10!

To learn about Thanksgiving the English Language Learners in grades 3-5 were read a story that was in Spanish and translated to English. It was made into a big book. They also followed along with a story of a family on Thanksgiving that is in the Festivals section of an English curriculum book one of the grade levels uses. They were able to read the story, listen to a CD of the story, and then ask questions about typical traditions on Thanksgiving Day in the United States. They then helped make a turkey. Each students was provided with a piece of orange, green, brown, or red paper. They traced and cut out their hands. The hands were then pasted to the body of a cut out turkey. The completed handprint turkey was displayed for the school.

Read some about the history of the first Thanksgiving, in English.  It is at the National Georgraphic website for kids. There are also some activities, recipies, and games that kids can participate in to learn more about the Holiday.
